On 12 January 2018, the Opening Ceremony of the 12th China (Sanya) International Orchid Show was commenced at the Orchid World Resort in Sanya. H.E. Mme. Jiang Zehui, Vice Chair of Committee of Population, Resources & Environment of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and President of China Flower Association, Mr. Xu Yahui, Deputy Party Secretary of CPC Sanya Committee, Mr. Li Yucai, Honorary President of Hainan Orchid Association, Mr. Bao Jian, Executive Vice Mayor of Sanya Municipal Government, H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping, Secretary-General of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), leading officials of relevant departments and divisions of Hainan and Sanya, representatives of exhibitors and industrial associations attended the event.
Vice Mayor Bao Jian warmly welcomed all the foreign and domestic participants. He stated that Sanya is not only a famous tourist resort in China, but also an important production base of tropical orchid. In recent years, with the guidance and help of China Flower Association, Sanya Municipal Government has vigorously developed the orchid industry and invested a lot in organizing this show and building an orchid culture park, which has already made the farmers build up their own family fortunes, enriched cultural connotation and promoted the proper combination of agriculture and tourism. By means of orchid, Sanya will make friends from all around the world, carrying forward the Chinese morality and promoting Chinese culture. Sanya will endeavour to build a special, high-level, creative, cost-effective and influential orchid event for all the participants. Sanya will also further promote orchid culture and orchid industry and build itself as a national tropical orchid trading hub and a popular stop for orchid lovers.
Honorary President Li Yucai said that China (Sanya) International Orchid Show has always been a significant platform for the development of orchid industry in Hainan province. He hoped the orchid show could further carry forward Chinese excellent orchid culture, promote the development of flowers and related industries, and make great contributions to the development of tourism, economy, cultural exchanges, foreign trade, livelihood projects and the construction of the Beautiful New Hainan.
Ms. Zhou Peihua, exhibitor representative from the Macau Special Administrative Region of China, said that she has been involved in the Show for ten consecutive years. She not only took part in activities, but also took her best young students from all o
ver China to the Show to compete in the floral art competition, so as to let them feel the great atmosphere of the Show and the charm of Sanya. She believed in the near future, there would be more talented young floral artists showing their abilities in the Show.
Professor Jiang Zehui mentioned that China is the largest flower production base in the world, an important flower consumer and a flower import and export trading country. Since the 21st century, the tropical orchid has developed rapidly in China. Hainan is an important place to grow tropical orchid resources in China. Hainan tropical orchid has developed rapidly and Hainan has become an important orchid production base in China. Sanya regards orchid industry as a fundamental industry to enrich gardeners, improve the environment, boom economy and expand opening-up. The Show has been held for 11 consecutive years since 2006, and shapes a bright name card for Sanya. She hoped the Show could promote the exchanges and cooperation among domestic and international orchid circles, so as to promote the popularization of floral knowledge and culture, guide flower consumption, make positive contributions to promoting the development of Chinese flower industry.
The exhibition hall of the Show occupies a total of 8 hectares. The hall is divided into 19 areas, such as Orchid Public Landscape Area, Spring Festival Floristry Area, Pot Flower Design Competition Area, and Tourists’ Experiential Consumption Area. During the Show, a series of events will be held including international orchid forum, international ikebana competition, flower art demonstration and lecture, and international flower fair.
