On 2 February 2018, Mr. Vithit Powattanasuk, Director of Information and Public Relations Division of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), attended 2018 China-ASEAN Network and Media Cooperation Seminar & China-ASEAN Media Cooperation and Exchange Annual Meeting held by China-ASEAN Panorama in Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Attended the meeting were Mr. Sakon Varanyuwatana, Vice Minister of Commerce of Thailand, Mr. Pornchai Tarkulwaranont, Advisor to the Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Wang Lei, Director-General of Guangxi International Exposition Bureau, Mr. Gao Hang, President of China-ASEAN Media Network, heads of publicity departments of governments of Nanning, Qinzhou, Chongzuo, representatives of media of Guangxi and ASEAN countries including Cambodia, Malaysia and Thailand, totaling approximately 150 participants.
The meeting focused on how to build ASEAN-China network "Information Silk Road" and amplify the voice of China-ASEAN. Mr. Sakon Varanyuwatana, Mr. Wang Lei, Mr. Pornchai Tarkulwaranont, and Mr. Vithit Powattanasuk delivered remarks respectively. They stressed on the importance of media to help promote ASEAN-China relations. Mr. Gao Hang outlined the cooperation between the China-ASEAN Media Network and ASEAN media. Mr. Theparak Leungsuwan, Chairman of TCITV, Mr. Michael Jan, Chief Editor of Malaysia's China ASEAN Business, Ms. Raewadee Phongchaiyong, Chief Editor of Thai-ASEAN Panorama, and other participants shared their media experience of working with Chinese counterparts. There was also a signing ceremony of China-ASEAN Media Network and Cambodia, Malaysia and Thailand media after the meeting.
During the meeting, the representatives of ACC made active engagement with various stakeholders of local Publicity Department as well as ASEAN media and Guangxi media to further strengthen ACC’s networks with ASEAN media and other key players. During the visit to Nanning, Mr. Vithit Powattanasuk paid a courtesy call respectively on Mr. Fan Yi, Director-General of Guangxi People's Broadcasting Station, and Mr. Ma Tiehu, Director of News Channel of Guangxi Television, to discuss ways to further strengthen media cooperation.
