Welcoming Reception of the 1st ASEAN-China Media Cooperation Forum held in Wuxi

On 11 May 2018, the welcoming reception of the 1st ASEAN-China Media Cooperation Forum was held in Wuxi. H.E. Dr. AKP Mochtan, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN, H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping, Secretary-General of ASEAN-China Centre, Mr. Huang Qin, Deputy Party Secretary and Acting Mayor of Wuxi city, Mr. Zhang Ye, Director-General of the International Liaison Bureau of the State Council Information Office, Ms. Yang Mu, Counselor of Department of Asian Affairs of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Lu Cairong, Vice President of China International Publishing Group, Ms. Chen Shi, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of China International Publishing Group and President of China Report Press, Mr. Yang Liqun, Deputy Director-General if the Information Office of Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government, Mr. Yang Jing, Deputy Director-General of Foreign Affairs Office of Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government, Mr. Zhou Haijiang, Vice President of All-China Chamber of Industry & Commerce and Chairman of the Board and CEO of HOdo Group, representatives of embassies of Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia and Singapore to China, and representatives from media, business community and academia of ASEAN countries attended the reception.

Secretary-General Yang Xiuping addressed the reception by welcoming the guests to attend the forum. She said that media serve as an important bridge and bond for culture exchanges and people-to-people connectivity. It shoulders extremely important missions and plays irreplaceable role in building the community of shared future between ASEAN and China.

Ms. Chen Shi, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of China International Publishing Group and President of China Report Press, mentioned that this forum aimed to implement the consensus reached at the China-ASEAN Member States Information Ministerial Meeting in 2017 while building a “track 1.5 platform” combining official and non-official exchange and dialogue between ASEAN and China. She hoped that media organizations on both sides work together to consolidate traditional friendship between China and ASEAN countries, boost the China-ASEAN relationship and inspire peoples of all countries to advance shoulder-to-shoulder towards a community with a shared future.

Mr. Yuan Fei, Member of the Standing Committee and Director of the Publicity Department of the CPC Wuxi Municipal Committee, welcomed guests from home and abroad to visit Wuxi. Recognizing the significance of the forum, he hoped that it could continue to promote the exchange and cooperation between Wuxi and ASEAN countries to reach a new height, usher in a new era and achieve a new leap forward.

The 1st ASEAN-China Media Cooperation Forum was co-hosted by ASEAN-China Centre, China International Publishing Group, Information Office of Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government, and supported by Foreign Affairs Office of Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government and Wuxi Municipal People’s Government. The forum was organized by China Report Press, Information Office of Wuxi Municipal People’s Government, Hodo Group, and was co-organized by Foreign Affairs Office of Wuxi Municipal People’s Government, Sihanoukville Special Economy Zone Co.,Ltd. Participants from the ASEAN Secretariat, as well as the governments, media, universities, think tanks and the business community of China and ASEAN countries had in-depth discussion on the development trends of media in China and ASEAN, and building China-ASEAN community of shared future, under the theme of “Innovate Media Cooperation for a Shared Future”. A symposium was held at the forum, inviting Professor Shi Anbin, Associate Dean of Research with School of Journalism and Communication of Tsinghua University to give a lecture on “Innovation of Journalism in China in the Era of Smart Media”. The ASEAN-China Media Exchange Meeting was also held to further explore new ways of media cooperation in the future.
