On 5 May 2018, ASEAN-China media delegation visited Fudan University and had discussion with the University’s faculties and students. Attended the event were Mr. Chen Zhimin, Assistant President of Fudan University, Mr. Chen Yinzhang, Secretary-General of Shanghai Institute for Development Studies, and relevant persons-in-charge of Institute of International Studies, Centre for China’s Relations with Neighbouring Countries, the Network of ASEAN-China Academic Institutes, and Shanghai New Media Laboratory, and representatives of faculties and ASEAN and Chinese students of Journalism School of Fudan University, totaling around 20 participants.
Assistant President Chen Zhimin briefed on the University and its exchanges and cooperation with ASEAN countries. He stated that the University is dedicated to cultivating students with humanism, scientific spirits, international eyesight and professional skills. Over 13,000 undergraduates, 19,000 post-graduates are enrolled in the University, of which 2,100 are foreign students. In 2017QS Asian universities’ ranking, the University was ranked no.6. The university warmly welcomes ASEAN students to come to study, and wishes to enhance its exchanges and cooperation with ASEAN counterparts with a view to contributing more to sustained development of ASEAN-China relations. Relevant persons-in-charge respectively briefed on Shanghai Forum, Youth Innovation Competition on Lancang-Mekong Region’s Governance and Development, the Network of ASEAN-China Academic Institutes as well as the University’s efforts in international communication research and relevant professional’s education. ASEAN and Chinese students also shared their personal views on studying and living in the University.
Mr. Vithit Powattanasuk, Director of Information and Public Relations Division of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), commended the University’s achievements in education and fruitful outcomes of exchanges and cooperation with ASEAN counterparts. He hoped that the University could give a full play to its strength, and contribute more to raising both peoples’ awareness of ASEAN-China relations, so as to play an even greater role in implementing the Belt and Road Initiative. Mr. Recto Mercene from Business Mirror of the Philippines, Ms. Juwita Trisna Rahayu from Antara News Agency of Indonesia, and other journalists interacted with Chinese participants on several topics, for instance, development trend of news media, opportunities and challenges of media transformation, capacity building of international communication. The delegation also visited the University’s history museum, new media laboratory of Journalism School, and watched the foreign students’ recruitment video.
Following the meeting was a field visit to cultural and historical sites on Wukang Road. Mr. Wu Xiaodong, Associate Professor of Shanghai Urban Construction Vocational College, interacted with journalists on preservation and conservation of historical architectures on Wukang Road.
