On 6 May 2018, the reporting trip themed “ASEAN-China Jointly Building the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road” visited Jiaxing municipality, Zhejiang province. ASEAN and Chinese journalists visited Wingtech Communication Company and Jiaxing Science City, where they experienced China’s scientific and technological innovation and socio-economic achievements.
Ms. Liu Xiaoqing, Chief of Quality Control of Wingtech, briefed on their company’s operations. Wingtech is a Chinese leading mobile terminal and intelligent hardware industrial ecological platform covering research & development and intelligent production on mobile terminals, intelligent hardware, laptop, virtual reality, internet of vehicles, automotive electronics, and so on. It has clients in over 170 countries and regions across the world. With major brands in the industry, they maintain deep cooperation with these clients. With intelligent terminals and internet industry as its industrial base, Wingtech Group is forming an industrial chain of mobile terminals and intelligent hardware worth over RMB 100 billion. The delegation visited its factories and witnessed the production line of Printed Circuit Board (PCB).
In Jiaxing Science City, Mr. Lu Yong, Deputy Party Secretary of Zhejiang Institute of Advanced Technology of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), stated to the journalists that the institute was co-founded by Zhejiang Provincial Government, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Jiaxing Municipal Government. The institute has introduced 24 CAS research institutes into Jiaxing, and established 25 engineering centres, 3 specialized institutes, 3 provincial public service platforms and 11 municipal key laboratories, thus becoming China’s earliest, largest and fastest-developing platform based on an integrated cooperation of CAS and local government. During the discussion, journalists interacted with the management of the institute on such topics as governmental supporting mechanism, sources of social capital, transformation and incubation of scientific and technological research outcomes. The atmosphere is warm.
The Institute of Future Technology was co-founded by Jiaxing Municipal Government, Zhejiang Tsinghua Yangtze River Delta Research Institute, People’s Government of Nanhu District of Jiaxing and Administrative Committee of Jiaxing Science City. Ms. Dai Xiaohui, Manager Assistant of the Intelligent Structural Health Research Centre, briefed on virtual reality, augmented reality and 3D film, and demonstrated drone, intelligent sensor and other advanced devices. The institute technological innovation and transformation of research outcomes in future media, intelligent manufacturing, internet plus virtual reality, photoelectrical infrastructure and other fields, thus to cultivate industrial clusters with new dynamics.
Journalists respectively mentioned that visiting innovative companies and research institutes deepened their understanding on China’s scientific and technological innovations and development progresses. They were also impressed by the socio-economic development driven by scientific and technological innovations. They stated that this year marks the ASEAN-China Year of Innovation, which brings broader prospects of innovation cooperation. They would better convey to ASEAN people China’s innovation outcomes based on what they witnessed by their own eyes during the reporting trip, thus contributing more to deepening bilateral exchanges and cooperation.
In addition, on 7 May, the delegation also visited South Lake Resort and the conference venue of the first national congress of Chinese Party of Communists.
