On 28 May 2018, co-hosted by ACC and the Wuhan Municipal Government, ASEAN-Wuhan Trade and Investment Forum was successfully held in Wuhan, Hubei. Mr. Chen Mingquan, Deputy Secretary General of the Wuhan Municipal Government and Mr. Guo Chuanwei, Director of Trade and Investment Division of ACC addressed the forum. More than 150 participants including officials from ASEAN embassies and the Wuhan Municipal Government, representatives of ASEAN and Wuhan enterprises as well as the local media attended.
On behalf of the Wuhan Municipal Government, Deputy Secretary General Chen Mingquan extended a warm welcome to all the guests. He mentioned that as an important city in the Belt and Road Initiative, Wuhan had maintained very close economic and trade cooperation with ASEAN countries. At present, multiple national strategies including the Belt and Road Initiative, the Yangtze River Economic Belt and the Rise of Central China are focused on Wuhan. He stated that Wuhan is in the best period of development and is willing to strengthen cooperation with ASEAN countries and jointly open a new chapter of win-win cooperation.
On behalf of ACC, Director Guo Chuanwei highlighted in his speech that both ASEAN and China are at a critical juncture for greater development at present. ASEAN-China relations face new opportunities. He said that the forum aimed to deepen mutual understanding, promote economic and trade cooperation and improve people-to-people exchanges between ASEAN and Wuhan, so that both sides could give full play to their advantages and achieve win-win results.
On the two-way investment promotion session, officials of Wuhan Investment Promotion Bureau introduced Wuhan’s development orientation, urban construction, industrial status, cost advantages and preferential policies. Mr. Fang Hongbin, Managing Partner of Deloitte Wuhan Office and Ms. Eva Ng, Vice President of Nielsen Chinawere invited to introduce Wuhan's business environment and ASEAN’s key consumer goods markets respectively.
Ms. Irene Sim, Economics Counsellor of the Singapore Embassy in China, delivered a speech on behalf of ASEAN's rotating presidency this year to introduce new opportunities for ASEAN development. Minister counsellors and commercial counsellors from the Embassies of Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Viet Nam,as well as officials from Enterprise Singapore introduced their national conditions and preferential policies for attracting Chinese investment.
At the forum, representatives of ZWEEC Environmental Technologies (China) Co., Ltd and Wuhan Asia-Europe Logistics, on behalf of ASEAN and Wuhan enterprises, also shared their environmental protection projects, experience in investment and logistics cooperation opportunities in China.
Accompanied by the staff of Wuhan Foreign Office, officials of the embassies of ASEAN Member States and representatives of ASEAN enterprises visited the Wuhan Planning Exhibition Hall and Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone after the forum.
