On 1 June 2018, upon the invitation of H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping, Secretary-General of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), the Myanmar delegation, headed by H.E. Mr. Aye Myint Kyu, Former Union Minister for Culture of Myanmar and H.E. Mr. Yee Mon, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism of Myanmar, visited ACC Secretariat. The two sides exchanged views on Myanmar-China and ASEAN-China practical cooperation and the work of ACC. Attended the meeting were H.E. Mr. Thit Linn Ohn, Ambassador of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to China, representatives from the Myanmar Art Centre, tourism and culture industries, and division directors of ACC Secretariat.
Secretary-General Yang Xiuping spoke highly of Myanmar-China and ASEAN-China relations and the fruitful achievements made in practical cooperation in various fields. She expressed appreciation to Myanmar for cooperating with ACC in hosting the “3rd ASEAN Gourmet Festival: The Golden Land Myanmar”. She also gave a briefing on the mandate and work of ACC. Secretary-General Yang noted that cultural and people-to-people exchanges is an important bridge that connects people’s hearts and minds and is also a key driving force for the continued in-depth development of Myanmar-China and ASEAN-China relations. This year marks the 15th anniversary of ASEAN-China strategic partnership and the ASEAN-China Year of Innovation. ACC would like to take this opportunity to continue to strengthen communications and exchanges with ASEAN countries including Myanmar, elevate the bilateral cooperation to a new height with focus on culture and tourism, and achieve new outcomes that benefit people of both sides.
H.E. Mr. Aye Myint Kyu and H.E. Mr. Yee Mon delivered remarks respectively. They thanked ACC and Secretary-General Yang Xiuping for the contributions to promoting Myanmar-China and ASEAN-China friendly exchanges and cooperation. They expressed that by participating in the 5th China Beijing International Fair for Trade in Services and the 3rd ASEAN Gourmet Festival, the Myanmar delegation has deeply felt the profound Pauk-Phaw friendship between Myanmar and China, as well as the broad prospects of practical cooperation between Myanmar and China in various fields. The Myanmar government attaches great importance to the development of the Chinese tourism market and will implement a policy of visa-on-arrival for Chinese tourists in order to attract more Chinese tourists. They looked forward to strengthening communication and contact with ACC and continuously deepening cooperation in tourism and cultural fields, to make greater contributions to the development of Myanmar-China relations.
