The Awarding Ceremony of the 4th Beijing ASEAN Students’ Games (BASG) was held at Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) on 18 November, 2018. Ms. Kong Roatlomang, Director of Education, Culture and Tourism Division (ECTD) of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), Ms. Zhou Hui, Deputy Director of ECTD, and Mr. Ma Tieshi, Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges of BLCU attended the ceremony, joined by more than 300 ASEAN students from different universities in Beijing.
During the ceremony, students from Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Viet Nam presented cultural performances, followed by a short video clip reproducing the exciting moments throughout the Games from opening ceremony to various sports activities, which was warmly received by the student athletes.
Mr. Ma Tieshi delivered welcome remarks. He congratulated all the ASEAN students on their outstanding achievements in the sports activities. He said that BLCU has been collaborating with ACC for many years, which has yielded a series of meaningful activities for ASEAN students studying in China. It is hoped that ASEAN students would participate in more activities organized by ACC in the future and become disseminators of friendship between China and ASEAN.
In her remarks, Ms. Kong Roatlomang said that the past two weeks have witnessed vibrancy, sportsmanship and passion represented by the outstanding performances of the student athletes. While striving for victory with sweat and perseverance, the ASEAN student athletes fulfilled their oath by strictly abiding by the rules of the Games, conducting fair competition and living up to the true meaning of sportsmanship. She said that young students are the future of our nations and an important impetus to deepen ASEAN-China relations. She hoped that more and more young talents would take an active part in ASEAN-China friendly exchanges and in promoting ASEAN-China community with a shared future.
Ms. Kong Roatlomang, Ms. Zhou Hui and Mr. Ma Tieshi awarded medals to the winners of the 16 sports activities under the seven major events. They also joined the winners in group photos. The awarding ceremony was enveloped by warm and cheerful atmosphere accompanied by frequent applause and cheers.
The 4th Beijing ASEAN Students’ Games, hosted by ASEAN-China Centre, organized by ASEAN students’ associations in Beijing, and supported by Beijing Language and Culture University, are composed of seven major events, including ball games and track-and-field activities. The 4th BASG lasted for 15 days, attracting more than 800 student athletes from the 10 ASEAN Member States. Mr. Chen Dehai, Secretary-General of ASEAN-China Centre, Mr. Zhang Baojun, Vice-President of Beijing Language and Culture University, and representatives of the 10 ASEAN embassies in China attended the Opening Ceremony on 10 November. While participating in the Games, the athletes not only achieved excellent results, but also strengthened friendship and mutual trust among each another.
