On 25 November 2018, the China-ASEAN University Students’ Culture Week opened in Haikou, Hainan Province. Mr. Chen Dehai, Secretary-General of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), Mr. Zhou Anwei, Chief Engineer of Hainan Provincial Tourism, Culture, Radio, Television and Sports Department, Mr. Feng Honghao, Vice Mayor of Haikou City and consuls general of ASEAN countries in Guangzhou attended the opening ceremony.
Secretary-General Chen Dehai stated in his remarks that young students are the pillars of the country and the hope of the future, providing incessant driving forces for the sustainable development of ASEAN-China relations. The China-ASEAN University Students’ Culture Week provides a meaningful platform for facilitating friendly communication among students, promoting in-depth cooperation among universities and strengthening people-to-people exchanges between ASEAN and China. It was hoped that young students would strengthen communication and exchanges and introduce to each other culture of their own countries, which would help broaden their vision and deepen friendship. He hoped the young students would carry on friendly exchanges and cooperation between ASEAN and China, and engage in promoting common development and building the ASEAN-China community with a shared future.
The China-ASEAN University Students’ Culture Week was hosted by Haikou University of Economics and supported by ASEAN-China Centre, Hainan Provincial Tourism, Culture, Radio, Television and Sports Department, Hainan Provincial Education Department, Haikou Municipal People’s Government and Dongfang Municipal People’s Government, with the aim of establishing an international exchange platform in education and culture for university students of ASEAN and China.
While attending the opening session of the Culture Week, Secretary-General Chen Dehai also attended the opening ceremony of the Hainan Carnival 2019 and had exchanges with Mr. Vira Rojpojchanarat, Minister of Culture of Thailand as well as consuls general of ASEAN countries in Guangzhou.
