?China Sustained Its Tourism Growth in 2019

In the year of 2019, China’s tourism sector continued its upward trend with a growth rate higher than the national GDP.
Domestic tourist arrivals in 2019 were 6.01 billion, increasing by 8.4% year-on-year.
Inbound tourist arrivals in 2019 reached 145 million, increasing by 2.9% year-on-year. Among them, foreign tourist arrivals were 31.88 million, up by 4.4% year-on-year.
Overnight inbound tourist arrivals attained 65.73 million, an increase of 4.5% year-on-year. Among them, overnight inbound foreign tourist arrivals were 24.93 million, growing by 5.5% year-on-year.
International tourism receipts in 2019 achieved a new record of 131.3 billion US dollars, rising by 3.3% year-on-year, and the share of foreign tourist expenditure reached 77.1 billion US dollars, going up by 5.4% year-on-year.
For 2019, the top 20 countries of China’s inbound tourism market were as follows: Myanmar, Viet Nam, RoK, Russia, Japan, USA, Mongolia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, India, Thailand, Canada, Australia, Indonesia, Germany, UK, DPRK, France and Italy (for Myanmar, Viet Nam, Mongolia, India and DPRK, the statistics of inbound tourist arrivals included border visitors). Among them, there were 7 ASEAN countries.
The inbound tourist arrivals from ASEAN countries in 2019 were about 25.93 million, increasing by 2.1% year-on-year. ASEAN is one of the most important sources for China’s inbound tourists.
In 2019, China’s outbound travel market kept growing with the total outbound departures of 155 million, up by 3.3% year-on-year. ASEAN remains its status as the favorite destination for China’s outbound tourists.
